Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Monkey Forest – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert
This two-day desert tour from Fes will start at the point that best suits your plan: the airport, your accommodation or any other place within the city. In all cases, our English-speaking driver will pick you up in a private vehicle fully equipped to ensure maximum comfort. From there we will head south through the changing landscapes of the Middle Atlas. Our first stop will be Ifrane, a picturesque town located at an altitude of more than 1,700 meters. Its alpine style, with sloping roofed houses and perfectly ordered streets, makes it unique in Morocco. It is known as "the Moroccan Switzerland" for its cleanliness, cold climate, and frequent snowfall during the winter. We will continue the route to the Ifrane National Park, also called the Cedar Forest or Monkey Forest, home to the famous Barbary macaques. This natural environment stands out for its great beauty and for being one of the last refuges where this species can live in freedom. Then we will cross the Middle Atlas and descend towards the fertile Ziz Valley, an oasis that follows the course of the river of the same name. As we advance, the landscape becomes more and more arid, announcing the proximity of the desert. We will arrive in Erfoud, a small town known for its fossil and marble deposits, and for having been the setting for several films set in the Sahara. From here we will head towards Merzouga, the gateway to the majestic Erg Chebbi. There we will change our means of transport to continue the adventure on the back of camels – or, if you prefer, in 4x4 vehicles – until we reach the heart of the golden dunes. At sunset, we will be welcomed at our tent camp with a traditional Berber tea. After dinner under the stars, you can enjoy a magical night in the middle of the desert, enveloped by the silence and immensity of the Sahara sky.
Day 2: Merzouga Desert – Fes
On this second day of the excursion from Fes, it is worth waking up early to enjoy an unforgettable spectacle: the sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Seeing how the sun dyes the sand golden tones is a magical experience that will be forever etched in your memory. After this unique moment, we will have breakfast and return towards Merzouga, either again by camel or by 4×4, depending on the option chosen. There you can take a shower and prepare for the return trip, either in a hotel or directly at the camp, depending on the type of accommodation contracted. The return will follow the same route as the previous day, crossing the Middle Atlas and the changing landscapes of the Ziz Valley again. During the journey we will make brief stops to rest or take the last photos of the road, with the aim of arriving in Fez in the early afternoon. Once in the city, our tour will end. If your flight is on the same day, you will arrive with enough time to take it; if not, you can take advantage of the afternoon to continue exploring this jewel declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
